2022 Kia EV6 Wind Overview

Interior Features

Kia has designed the EV6 Wind cabin, including many technologies and comfort features not found previously on prior Kia EVs. The EV6 Wind ranks a cut above the other top-tier Kia models. The 12-inch instrument cluster is joined with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display behind a sheet of black glass. Using a sheet of glass presents what appears to be a seamless, single and expansive display.

The display is slightly bent towards the driver for easy viewing and operating in its center. The instrument cluster utilizes virtual technology for displaying critical driving data, so you can customize the information you wish to see. It adds blue light filtering that reduces eye strain and user fatigue. Kia also includes an augmented reality heads-up display projecting advanced driver-assistance system alerts, vehicle information, speed, lane guidance, and many more to the windshield before you.

Kia EV6 Wind sports a stylish two-spoke steering wheel. It features black with white trim and a flat bottom for sporty handling. Matching trim on the center console gives a sophisticated touch and feel.

Infotainment Features

The 2022 Kia EV6 Wind is equipped with a sound system that captures cutting-edge technology. It comes with a 14-speaker premium Meridian audio system with Intelli Q speed-sensing volume adjusting sound output to compensate for road and other atmospheric noise.

It also gets UVO Link, Kia’s remote operations platform. It enables EV6 Wind owners to access connected vehicle applications.

Other connectivity functionality includes smart speakers for Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa and stolen vehicle recovery. It also features Kia Pay for retail purchasing at participating outlets. UVO Link also enables remote start, lock and unlock capability.

Exterior Features

The 2022 EV6 Wind presents a bold fascia from the front with daytime running lights and boomerang-shaped headlights with a moving light pattern design. The hood is set low in the front and slopes upward, meeting the windshield. It angles back for enhanced aerodynamics.

Along the side of the vehicle’s body, you notice the DRLs end where the bulging wheel arches begin. It has a thin silver beltline that runs below the black side rocker panels before sloping towards the rear. It rises sharply at the C-pillar and flared rear wheel walls. The EV6 Wind roofline gently slopes to the back before angling sharply down. The design element gives the 2022 EV6 Wind a sedan-type styling without compromising interior headroom for rear passengers. The exterior also gets flush door handles to provide a more futuristic look. The signature alloy wheels come in several styles at 19, 20 and 21-inch sizes.

Engine and Performance

Upgrading the electric motor and the battery gives the EV6 Wind extra performance and mileage. The EV6 Wind makes everyday driving more energetic and spontaneous with 225 horsepower and an estimated mileage range of 310 miles.

Still standard with the RWD, the optional second electric motor is placed on the front axle for functional AWD maneuverability, giving 320 horsepower.

How much does the 2022 Kia EV6 Wind cost?

Depending on the overall configuration, the 2022 EV6 Wind has a starting MSRP of $47,000. The price is for the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version of Kia’s electric SUV. The Sorento Hybrid S comes loaded with various standard features. It offers an impressive passenger room.

It is equipped with a prominent touchscreen featuring an easy-to-use infotainment system. Except for a limited cargo space behind the third row, it has a few drawbacks and is far from the highly-rated SUV like Sorento Hybrid. It is spacious and versatile inside.

Regarding a few measurements, the Sorento Hybrid S has an advantage over larger vehicles such as the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. The cargo space behind the first row is 75.5 cubic feet. The second row is 45.0 cubic feet, and the third row is 12.6 cubic feet. The legroom for the first row is 41.4 inches, for the second row, it is 40.7 inches, and for the third row, it is 27.7 inches. Power adjustable driver’s seats and heated front seats are distinctive SUV features. It also offers rear parking sensors, a rear-seat reminder that alerts you to check the back seat before going out of the vehicle and a rear passenger safe-exit system preventing a rear passenger from opening a door for traffic approaching from behind.

Technology Features

If you opt for the Kia Sorento Hybrid S, you receive upgraded tech features not available with the standard Sorento. Among those is the 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, which is larger than the 8.0-inch touchscreen that comes in the base trim of the Sorento. It also includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and built-in navigation. All three rows are fitted with USB ports. The Sorento Hybrid S has a 4.3-inch cluster display, and the six-speaker audio system is standard. In our experience, it sounds pretty good.

Get to Know the New 2022 Kia Sorento SX

Today, we are looking at the new 2022 Kia Sorento SX SUV.

It is a stylish 3-row SUV that slots under the Telluride but is more significant than the Niro or Sportage.

Overall Look

The exterior look of the Kia Sorento is pretty all the way around. We loved the tiger grill that has become a pillar on new Kia cars. The 20-inch matte finished alloy wheels are superb. It has bold lines, a sculpted hood and a spoiler that plates the rear wiper. The feature is generally found on more expensive SUVs and is a feature we liked, especially during a car wash.

The SX Prestige is the crest of the Sorento lineup.

The X-line designation comes with an all-wheel drive.

It has a more rugged appearance and has better ground clearance than others.

Probably, it is the off-roader of the Sorento line. However, it feels more like a luxury SUV.

Powertrain

When looking beneath the hood, you will find a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine turbocharged. It generates a robust 281 horsepower and even stronger 311-pound feet of torque. It will help you to move fast from a dead start. It is matched to an 8-speed automatic shift paddle.

Impressive Interior

A big surprise awaited us when we opened the door to enter the cabin. We were impressed with the first impression of the interior. The seats of the Sorento SX are a little bolstered with diamond patterns on the outside. Stitching is everywhere, and a lovely wood adorns the door panels continuing through the dashboard.

With hitting the pushbutton ‘Start,’ the massive 12.3-inch digital driver gauge cluster opens to life, welcoming you with a colorful, configurable information center in the middle.

The center console is fantastic, with 3 USB ports and a wireless phone charger. It is equipped with two cupholders and an extra cubby for toll tags or phones if needed. It is also where you will activate the Auto Hold. Thankfully, you can deactivate the stop/start and turn on the heated steering wheel.

It also provides switches to turn on the air-conditioned and heated seats.

You have the option to activate the drive modes, and sport mode is one of the favorites. However, you will notice some specific differences between each method.

High on the dashboard is a 10.2-inch screen to operate the Bose Audio System. It offers navigation and comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, fantastic rear and front cameras, and Bluetooth.

Additionally, you can hit the Passenger Talk button, which lets you speak to third-row passengers. However, they cannot talk back through a built-in microphone. There is also a Quiet Mode which cuts off the speakers to the rear one when someone is sleeping. The display screen is fast and easy to use.

The room is better towards the second-row captain chairs, and the seats are slid, reclined and heated. Rear A/C vents are also available, and Kia has cleverly put the USB ports at the back of the front seats.

One drawback is that the third-row seat room is quite limited. It is best suited for kids but not much comfortable for adults. Suppose you require more space. You can go to Telluride.

Useful Utility

Going towards the Cargo area, we saw some hindrances.

The storage area is also limited, but there is sufficient storage underneath. The third-row seats drop quickly manually for a flat cargo area. They are simple to put back up.

Standard pieces of equipment

The Sorento SX comes loaded with everything you wish it had. It includes a massive panoramic moonroof, remote start, keyless remote, power liftgate, dual front power seats, park assist, and more.

Sound Safety

Safety-wise, the Sorento SX offers blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, forward collision assist, rear seat alert, and lane-keep assist if anyone or anything is left in the back.

The blind spot system displays the mirrors, but you get a full side view of the road when you use the blinkers. You also get to see both side views on the gauge cluster, directly in front, depending on your driving direction. We think this feature is pretty impressive.

Fuel Economy

The 2022 Kia Sorento with the basic 2.5-liter four-cylinder estimates to earn up to 24 mpg in the city area and 29 mpg on the highway track. The powerful turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder will get 22 mpg city and 29 on the highway.

The Sorento hybrid is the most fuel-efficient, estimated at 39 mpg in the city and 35 on the highway.

Kia claims the PHEV travels up to 32 miles on electricity alone with a single charge.

2022 Kia Sorento SX Feature Upgrades:

  • Remote folding 2nd row
  • Rain sensing wipers
  • Leather seats
  • Driver seat memory function
  • 4-way driver’s seat lumbar support
  • 2-way passenger seat lumbar support
  • Deluxe interior trim
  • Air-cooled front seats
  • Bose premium sound system
  • Heads-up display
  • Full TFT supervision digital cluster
  • Blind-spot view monitor

Meet the new 2022 Kia Carnival SX

The new 2022 Kia Carnival continues Kia’s recent onset of impressive cars that perform above the pay grade, offer aggressive exterior styling, luxurious and roomy interior, well balanced on road performance, and boasts excellent value in a small but competitive fragment.

While most of the attention is still on the Telluride, the Carnival is possibly the more intelligent buy typically for families that do not need the extra ground clearance or the all-wheel drive.

Exterior Styling

Kia lets to borrow a top-of-the-line Carnival SX Prestige in its hero color Astra Blue, a deep metallic color.

All Carnival SX and SX Prestige models have 19-inch gloss black wheels and satin chrome accents on the exterior. It is the most noticeable on the eminent C-pillar trimming that also features a textured pattern which is continued on the interior trim for a cohesive design.

The Carnival is simply the most aggressive-looking SUV available today with its exposed headlight elements, a taller hood, thin rear light bar, SUV-like profile. The Kia Carnival SX and SX Prestige also come standard with roof rails that feature a floating back end, making it easier to tie down cargo on the roof.

The SX Prestige comes with full LED headlights and an LED taillight bar. The turn signals, license plate lighting, and reverse lights are bright on all the models. The SX Prestige’s signature daytime running lights turn double as the front LED turn signals. A small element within the lamp stays white when the rest of the light turns amber.

Luxury For Your Family

Kia’s 2022 Carnival is optimized for interior comfort.

The Carnival takes it to another level; there is a lot to talk about here.

After opening the standard power sliding rear doors from the key fob, the Carnival SX offers several features.

You are welcomed into the Carnival by the extra luxurious second-row VIP lounge seats. The driver’s chairs have an extensive range of movement, enabling you to adjust each seat manually outboard or inboard, back or forward to the desired position. It also provides reclining seatbacks, power tilting and extending leg rests power tilting seat bottoms, and flight-styled wing headrests. Each seat has dual armrests that can be lowered or raised.

Inside the Carnival, you will feel like you are in your private jet while enjoying the second row. If you are taller, you can use secondary power controls for the passenger seat adjustment, allowing you to stretch your feet.

Carnival offers three-stage heated and ventilated seats, allowing you to stay at the desired temperature. It is assisted by a rear seat automatic climate control panel and four different air vents.

After adjusting your seat to the perfect position, you can switch on the built-in dual rear-seat entertainment screen to stream YouTube,  Netflix. You can plug in the gaming console to the HDMI ports or mirror the smartphone to enjoy unlimited entertainment possibilities. Depending on your position, the screens take a beating, and you can adjust to point downwards or upwards.

Kia Carnival also gives you the freedom to control the outside world’s view from the back. With a secondary power opening sunroof, manual sunshade cover, one-touch power windows in the doors, sunshades for all rear side windows, you can keep the light out on sunny days.

Kia Carnival ensures that all your electronic devices stay charged at all times. It features no less than nine USB power outlets and two household-styled outlets.

There are also phone slots between the cupholders in the first and second rows, and the third-row cupholders are in between additional storage locations.

Kia delivers plenty of storage in the Carnival, but it is not class-leading. With no pass-through storage area in the center console in the first row shallow cubbies at front doors, it only offers bottle holders on the sliding rear doors.

You will surely love the kids’ mode on the rear entertainment screens of the Kia Carnival. It has Baby Shark videos and games built-in, and it also provides access to YouTube kids. You can connect either monitor by Bluetooth to the Bose Audio System to play music through the speakers or connect a Bluetooth headset for private listening. You also have the liberty to link two screens together so that all rear passengers watch the same thing if desired.

Talking about driver goodies, the Carnival SX features a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster which is unique.

When configurability, you can choose between classic and dynamic modes. The traditional way displays traditional round gauges, which change the theme when you change the drive mode. The active mode delivers a more open feel and a landscape that changes to match the time of the day and weather in the current location. The gauge cluster also offers Kia’s turn signal camera feature. Those cameras are used in the ultra-crisp 360-degree parking camera system.

Safety Features

Kia has packaged several software features with the new Carnival. The car alerts you if the leading vehicle has departed after being stopped at a red light. The gentle reminder prevents drivers behind the vehicle from getting frustrated if you were looking somewhere else when the light turned green.

A navigation-based feature also turns on air recirculating when driving through a known area with low air quality. After leaving the site, it turns back to outside air and switches on the auto defogging system. Drivers can control all the power functions on the VIP lounge seats, including the heated or ventilated seats from the driver’s seat, seat positions.

Driving Performance

Knowing about the priorities of the Kia Carnival, we were not expecting much from the driving experience, but we were thoroughly impressed.

The 3.5L V6 provides 290 horsepower; its outdated 248 lb-ft torque does not give you a feeling of speed. However, it provides power instantly through its 8-speed Automatic Transmission. The Carnival handles it incredibly nicely.

It corners flatly and offers to push hard around bends at speed without any complaints from the tires. We were not expecting it with the size and height of the Kia Carnival.

Kia Carnival has an intelligent cruise control system that is better than other Hyundai or Kia Cars with older versions. Even in the most aggressive setting, the Carnival smoothly brakes without leaving more significant gaps in traffic as it takes advantage of the navigation-based Highway Driving Assist. With the help of it, Carnival stays centered in the lane. It also adjusts the target speed dynamically to the speed limit.

The gas mileage is relatively low. Kia Carnival is rated at 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway; we saw it closer to 15 mpg due to pushing it more complex in the real world.

Practicality vs. Luxury

The trim levels of the Kia Carnival are designed so that the choice to make stands between practicality and luxury.

The Carnival SX offers various features not available on lower trims, including the digital gauge cluster, dual sunroof system, leather seats, LED taillight bar, full LED headlights, 360-degree camera, turn signal cameras, 12 speakers, Bose audio system, heated steering wheel, etc.

If you want these luxury features of the SX, you will need to live with the VIP lounge seats, which sounds like a great thing.

However, those features reduce the overall practicality of the car. For example, there is no rear-mounted mechanism to access the third row. You will have to either walk between the driver’s chairs to the third row or reach over to the power seat controls, which stay on the inboard side of the seats to adjust them forward.

Furthermore, you can remove the second-row seats altogether for a flat load door with 145 cubic feet of space in lower trim levels. But the VIP lounge seats cannot be removed, which means that cargo space is limited to only what passengers fit behind them in the forward position. Hence, for more prominent families or who need to carry around a lot of luggage regularly, it will be tough to justify the extra cost for the SX Prestige, even with all the additional features you will enjoy.

Be ready to compromise when you have to buy your Kia Carnival.

Pricing Value

Kia has branded a lot into the new Carnival MPV. The SX is an authentic luxury experience. The product planners at Kia America knew they had to keep the price value reasonable.

The base model LX starts at $32,100, which is on par with the Toyota Sienna, and cheaper than the Honda Odyssey.

The fully loaded SX Prestige comes in at $46,100, while the Odyssey comes in at $47,280 and Sienna over $50,000.

Therefore, you will not need to justify any extra expense if you want to buy a Carnival. However, as it is a tough market, you should not expect to pay less than MSRP.

Conclusion

Kia Carnival SX is the first minivan you should seriously consider. It is impressively put together and is very attractive. The SX seats eight and SX Prestige seats 7, so if you have a big family, the SX will work better for you.
