KIA Sorento Plug-in-Hybrid 2022: New SUV for a Carbon-Free Future

The South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia has come up with the 2022 KIA Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). Following the industry trend, Kia has not forgotten to include some eco-friendly features in their new vehicle. The hybrid option will start at $46,165.

As with previous KIA 7-seater crossovers, the Rio is not generously equipped; all PHEV midsize crossover models will be higher trims, SX or SX Prestige versions (high-end models offered by KIA).

“The Sorento PHEV’s unusual balance of drivability, efficiency, and spaciousness will make it an appealing alternative for our customers,” said Sean Yoon, President and CEO of Kia North America.

Since we know all of the details about KIA’s new PHEV, it’s only fair that we talk about them.

Engine

The Kia Sorento PHEV has a 1.6-liter turbo-four with a 66.9 kW electric motor that is powered by a 13.8-kWh battery. Both the battery and engine contribute to the car’s performance, producing 261 horsepower.

A six-speed automatic gearbox with all-wheel drive is standard on the vehicle. Kia predicts that its three-row plug-in hybrid will get approximately 79 mpg combined and travel a total of 460 kilometers on a full tank with the battery pack. On the all-electric setup, the range is 32 miles.

Exterior

The Sorento PHEV 2022 is a five-seater with a length of 189.4 inches, an inside width of 74.4 inches, and an outside height of 66.3 inches. The ground clearance is 6.9 inches, and the wheelbase is 10.8 inches.

Last year, the automobile received a major redesign, and this year it gets one as well.

Kia’s redesign features a more boxer profile, although it doesn’t appear to be much. It no longer has an S-shaped or curved appearance. It appears more streamlined and resembles cars from a higher class.

The windows on the sides have become curvier, with a downward turn toward the rear of the car.

The 2016 Kia Optima’s new grille and steering wheel are covered in the brand’s distinctive script, but everything else is similar to previous generations. For the charging port, you’ll get an extra access door on the passenger side for a plug-in hybrid.

Interior

The Kia Sorento PHEV has up to 143.8 cubic feet (4,072 liters) of passenger volume and 12.6 to 75.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity when the third and second-row seats are folded. According to Automoblog, these are best-in-class figures for a midsize crossover.

The common features on the inside include a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, UVO link, wireless charging pad, Sirius XM radio, proximity key, and Bose audio system.

The SX Premium trim, on the other hand, adds a 2.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and a blind-view monitor that becomes active when signaling left or right.

Safety

Kia Sorento PHEV’s standard safety features include Kia Drive Wise, which includes blind-spot collision prevention assist, driver attention warning, lane following assistance, smart cruise control, rear-cross traffic warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a surround-view monitor.
